The Greek printmakers’ Association is pleased to present the series of engravings entitled ‘Shades of Black’ by artist Irini Antiniadis at the \u0395\u039a\u03a4\u03bf\u03a3 art space. The exhibition provides as an opportunity to review the artistic achievements of the artist over recent years. The engraver Irini Antoniadis has chosen to present a series of works which come from different points in time and cover different thematic areas, including a visit to the interior of a medieval Flemish house and glimpses of night landscapes, with or without human presence. The artworks have all been created during the last decade and reflect an exploration of the expressive possibilities of the copper engraving technique, a technique which has been remained unchanged for the past 500 years (since the Renaissance). Irini Antoniadis uses these traditional methods to create her prints, including hard ground etching and aquatint which result in rich, deep tones of black.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biography <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irini Antiniadi was born in Thessaloniki, she graduated with a degree in Fine Art from the Athens School of Fine Art (\u0391\u03a3\u039a\u03a4) in 2001. Irini continued her studies in engraving at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Visuels de la Cambres in Brussels where she studied with a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation and received an award from the city of Brussels for her master’s dissertation. Irini lives and works in Brussels and is a member of the Greek Printmakers’ Association. She has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions in Brussels and Berlin. Her engravings can be found in the Printmaking Museum in Belgium and the collection of the National Bank of Greece while her work has also been selected for the annual exhibition of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in London. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
