ATHENS PRINTMAKING ART CENTER- PANDOLFINI & SIATERLI C.N.P.P.  welcomes you to the first part of the exhibition BESTIARIUM

BESTIARIUMis the second of the two parts of the large printmaking event Phytology – Zoology, dedicated to the Flora and Fauna of the planet Earth, by the ATHENS PRINTMAKING ART CENTER – PANDOLFINI & SIATERLI C.N.P.P., exhibited in stages at the ETCH INK art space, in Athens, with international participation of visual artists.

The BESTIARIUM features 83 artists from many countries around the world; is proposed in two consecutive exhibitions: the first starts on 5 May and the second on 2 June 2021.

BESTIARIUM I is dedicated to the universal Fauna, with the participation of 43 from countries such as Italy, Germany, Ireland, Ukraine, Canada, Mexico, England, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Finland, Denmark, Poland, United States, Australia, India, Czech Republic, Brazil, Thailand, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Finland, Denmark, Poland, United States, Australia, India, Czech Republic, Brazil, Thailand and Greece.

The biologist Ilias Alexandros Lambiris, introducing the exhibition, notes: The BESTIARIUM exhibition presents an outline of the evolution of animals, from the prehistoric to the modern world. Through the dynamic description of this long and multidimensional history, artists urge us to observe the magic of the animal kingdom through their eyes. The composition of the exhibition begins with the observation and classification of animals, processes which are pillars of the understanding of the environment of planet Earth, the house of humans.

This artistic point of view brings us closer to the enchanting diversity of the natural world, which, however often it may be taken for granted, always deems exploration, and always fascinates.  This artistic composition extends beyond the depiction of individual animals; a central element of the exhibition is the description of interactions and correlations between animals, from which, clearly, humans are not absent.

…Animals seem to play the leading role in the chaotic balance that characterizes nature.

But what (can) ultimately be humans’ place in it?

BESTIARIUM is here to remind us that at this critical time, at the dawn of a new geological period, it is timely, now more than ever, to redefine our relationship with (the rest of the) animals, but also our very place in the planetary firmament, both philosophically and in practice.

“In a world where wealth accumulates in a single digit percentage of the population (less than 10%), and where the unsolved economic, environmental and healthcare problems affect more than 2/3 of the population,

IT WOULD BE GOOD

( since Kropotkin’s “Mutual Aid” seems forgotten…)

for biologists, anthropologists, zoologists, artists

TO SHED LIGHT

with solidary behaviours of animals

ONTO THE DARK BACKGROUND that is now menacingly surrounding us…”
