by 46 artists from countries around the world
ATHENS PRINTMAKING ART CENTER- PANDOLFINI & SIATERLI C.N.P.P.
welcomes you to the second part of the exhibition BESTIARIUM
HERBARIUM and BESTIARIUM is a double printmaking event dedicated to the Flora and Fauna of the planet Earth by the non-profit partnership ATHENS PRINTMAKING ART CENTER- PANDOLFINI & SIATERLI. The project is exhibited in stages at its headquarters ETCH INK art space in Athenswith international participation of artists.
Following the first exhibition of the BESTIARIUM project (until 29 Mai 2021), the ATHENS PRINTMAKING ART CENTER- PANDOLFINI & SIATERLI C.N.P.P. inaugurates and presents” BESTIARIUM II” with the participation of 46 artists from many countries around the world such as France, Holland, Poland, Austria, Ireland, England, Armenia, Portugal, Brazil, Romania, Chile, Chile, Singapore, South Korea, Michigan, USA, South Africa.
…In the two consecutive presentations of the exhibition “Bestiarium I & II”, the visual answers of the artists to the call of the “Athens Printmaking Art Center – Pandolfini & Siaterli C.N.P.P.” is a wide range of diverse treatment both on the conceptual and the morphological level. Printmaking language allows this freedom and enriches the possibility of expression in often fascinating ways.
Presented are works with traditional woodcut, wild engraving on untamed wood, works with a more organized woodcut or linoleum engraving, wondrous black- mezzo tint techniques where figures emerge from the darkness, etched interpretations with delicate, noble engravings on metal, robust silkscreen prints, special inject prints or photo polymer compositions that captivate the eye, inviting the viewer to philosophize on their message.
At the same time, one realizes the anxious approach of the artists through the comments they suggest to the viewer. The comparison of “Bestiarium” beings goes beyond recording of the species that distinguishes and archives it by making it stand out. The image of the animal becomes a critical social comment or outcry for the pointless exercise of violence and exploitation by Man. Of creatures that live and grow up more or less near us, that we know very little of and we are very little interested in understanding and learning from them, their rules and behaviours, their language and emotions.
D.S.
The ATHENS PRINTMAKING ART CENTER- PANDOLFINI & SIATERLI C.N.P.P. has repeatedly proposed an open artistic dialogue between Printmaking and the other visual arts. In this context, in the first part of Bestiarium, invited the sculptress Voula Gounela, (a guest artist).
The sculpted lizards of Vera Siaterli, a guest artist in this, second part of the exhibition BESTIARIUM, listen carefully to the earth that feeds them and signals their directions.
The biologist Elias Alexandros Lambiris documents the exhibition with his philosophical text (attached to the email)
Τhe econometrician Menelaos Sinanos, records measurement rates and invites us to be active:
“In a world where wealth accumulates in a single digit percentage of the population (less than 10%), and where the unsolved economic, environmental and healthcare problems affect more than 2/3 of the population,
IT WOULD BE GOOD
(since Kropotkin’s “Mutual Aid” seems forgotten…)
for biologists, anthropologists, zoologists, artists
TO SHED LIGHT
with solidary behaviours of animals
ONTO THE DARK BACKGROUND that is now menacingly surrounding us…”
