IDEAL STATES My intention is to create ideograms in order to submit a symbolic code and define a personal psychogeography. The forms result from the deconstruction and redesign of city plans. The compositions are characterized by the contradictions of the cities: dilation - contraction, magnification - reduction, light-shadow, silence-noise, bas relief - high relief , solidity-fluidity, full-empty, etc. The combination of maps, architectural drawings, monumental recall, dynamic gesture, and the dialogue of traditional methods of engraving with modern digital media make up the engraving matrix of traces of new Ideal states.

From the original design on the etching plate to the final print, the process of etching follows a journey where intricate lines, marks and tonal contrast tell the mysterious story of creation. Judy Attwood came to Greece from England in the 1980's, is a member of the Greek Printmakers' Association and is involved with IB Visual Arts education at HAEF, Psychico College.
Drawing was a way to tell myself stories that I was not able to say with words. The process of etching and printmaking enforces a magic distance between my initial motive and the result. I like also to play with the repetitive character of printing to make non-repetitive images. I would like my images to provoke something like poetic emotion.

My personal work is placed in the virtual textures of various materi als. Mostly I focus on anthropocentric depictions and utopian / dream environments . As painter and printmaker the subordinates diverge in a different direction analogous to them. I find freedom in the watercolour and the firmness of the line in print, but in both cases ink is what drives me. The rigidity and strictness of patterns in absolute alternation with the fluidity of ink and watercolour is the balance I seek.

The general title of my work is "New Code". The coding and decoding messages via barcode creation programs are immediately necessary and characterize the future of a whole generation. Words and phrases that are encoded, quite caustic and accurate refer to the outbreak of the financial crisis and the trapping and control that now govern the modern citizen. The codes of the countries the products are made play an important role in the creation of codes where the first three digits relate to a country for which the work or the coded phrase is created. Using the Barcode as raw data I created a new global visual language, where the symbol is translated into speech but it also retains the dynamic as an image too. The chromatic austerity and the frequent use of black-white and intense contrast, the limited color range, combined with the design accuracy, emphasizes the conceptual dimension of the subjects chosen, which are associated with the symbolism and codes used reveal a mood of research and skepticism.
